Austria, Germany, and Italy Express Support for SouthH2 Corridor
The energy ministries of Austria, Germany, and Italy have expressed their support for the SouthH2 Corridor, a proposed hydrogen pipeline connecting North Africa and Europe via Italy. The joint backing from these governments signifies Europe's commitment to expanding renewable hydrogen production and imports from North Africa. If designated as a European Union Project of Common Interest, the pipeline would gain access to public funds and streamlined permits. Additionally,
The SouthH2 Corridor, spanning 3,300 kilometers (2,051 miles) and capable of transporting over 4 million tons of hydrogen annually, aims to deliver green hydrogen from countries like Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia to European consumers. Leading the project are Snam from Italy, Trans Austria Gas Pipeline and Gas Connect Austria from Austria, and Bayernets from Germany. Italy sees this project as a significant step in its ambition to serve as a vital energy hub connecting Africa and Europe, expanding its role beyond natural gas deals. Airstrikes and Rocket Barrages Escalate Tensions in Gaza
The Israeli military has intensified its airstrikes on Gaza for the past two days, targeting senior members of Palestinian militia groups. In response to the Israeli attacks, rocket barrages have been launched from the Gaza Strip towards southern Israeli towns. Reporters on the ground have witnessed the firing of rockets and the Israeli Iron Dome attempting to intercept them.
The situation remains volatile, with ongoing rocket fire from Gaza and Israeli airstrikes persisting. Efforts for a ceasefire are being mediated by Egypt, which has played a significant role in past truce negotiations. The rocket launches from Gaza and the intense Israeli air raids continue to escalate tensions in the region. Meanwhile, Israel has deployed its mid-range air defence system, David's Sling, for the first time in this military operation.

The issuance of temporary residence permits has also been suspended.
The amendments have sparked debates regarding integration, national security, and potential discrimination.
